Written by Pamela Jo Hatley. On January 2, 2006 there was an underground explosion in the Sago Mine in Sago, WV. Thirteen miners survived the explosion but were trapped below. By the time rescuers were able to reach them several days later, all but one had succumbed to poisonous gases.
